We just got word that the film Under your skin by Yuval Gerstein and Cristina Picchi that was presented at the National Portrait gallery ( Road to 2012 exhibition ) this past summer, will be part of this exciting event in which it would be re-scored and played by a live band at Richmix centre in east London. The film mainly features sound design, binaural recording techniques along with first and third person video footage, features several athletes as they train towards the London 2012 Olympics and attempts to penetrate under your skin.

Here is the original film.

Pioneer musician Martyn Ware says about this project;

     ‘ When I first saw ‘Under Your Skin’ I was staggered by the sonic elements in particular – it was so refreshing to see and hear a unique insiders view of the processes and efforts involved in the tireless pursuit of olympic success. The nature of the sound recording and filming puts you viscerally right at the heart of why we ,as a society, are still looking for heroes as an eternal theme. I totally recommend this film, and I expect it to win many awards for its unique approach and excellence in execution. ‘

Here is another quote from one of the NPG producers,

‘A successful collaboration between two talented individuals, ‘Under Your Skin’ combines inventive filmmaking and audio-recording techniques to give a ‘close-up’ of different sports and London-based athletes. I found it fascinating to listen to the sounds made on the Goalball Court and catch glimpses of sports venues used daily for training, competition or just for fun. It’s great to see places like Herne Hill Velodrome (one of the venues of the 1948 Olympics) still very much being used and enjoyed. As a record of people striving for achievement, ‘Under Your Skin’ is a great addition and compliment to the other strands of the National Portrait Gallery/BT Road to 2012 Project.’

It would be interesting to see how the music would sound and how if the film would get a twist from the live music. The event will take place on October 21st at Rich mix centre in east London, 35-47 Bethnal Green road.
