Last weekend at Richmix centre in east London the Whirlygig Cinema held an event entitled making tracks in which innovative films by up and coming film makers were re-scored by a five piece live band. The films included animations, documentaries and video art. The musicians used a host of instruments to create interesting live textures and interpret the films in their own way. It is quite amazing how different a film could feel when the score is played live.
It’s a dying art form but Whirlygig Cinema keep it alive with their events. The film Under your skin (shown in the picture) was also re-scored and it was exciting to see the musicians take on the film which originally had only used sound design and no music.
