Production week day 2 – Recording live musicians at Goldsmiths university, London, UK

Have a look at day 1 first

Day 2 – Tuesday July 26th 2011

Alex frantically preparing a score

With everything still set up in the studio we came back for the second day of recording and started off with a double bass session with the young and talented Goldsmiths student Max Goff. Max recorded quite a few tracks on Double bass for us. We built him a

small recording booth in the studio to keep the bass frequencies from “escaping” the microphones. I used his built in DI pickup as well as two condensers ( One Vintage Neumann and one new Neumann ) as external mics. Alex wrote the basic chord sheet for Max and the session went very smoothly.

Next we got Hywel Jones on Trombone and Euphonium, recording a few brass parts for the song “My name is Jesus” and for other songs. We also has Tom Bush playing the Clarinet and Bass Clarinet. Some of the parts were not written out as scores so we took some time to write down charts for them.

Coming up is Day 3.
